Description

What your purchase includes

The pump, MPPT controller and all accessories are included. Solar panels are sold separately.

Water for your land, even away from a power socket. The Flocea 550 W solar surface pump is an option for irrigation, water transfer and tank filling using photovoltaic power. With a maximum flow of 6 m³/h, or 6,000 L/h, and 1-inch inlet and outlet connections, it can be considered for gardens, small plots and off-grid locations.

The right flow at the required head. 6 m³/h and 30 m are separate maximum values. Actual flow depends on elevation, pipework, required pressure and sunlight.

Irrigate, transfer and store water

Garden and crop irrigation

Supply a vegetable garden or small plot after checking the flow and pressure required by the irrigation system.

Tank filling

Pump during sunny hours and store water for later use.

Clear-water transfer

Move water from a pond or storage tank with an accessible surface installation.

Install the pump outside the water, close to the source. The 30 m maximum head is not a suction-depth rating: a deep water level calls for a submersible pump assessment. Sprinklers and drip irrigation require pressure calculations and, depending on the system, suitable filtration and regulation.

Work out the total head of your installation

Before comparing flow rates, estimate the total head the pump will have to deliver. Two measurements are enough.

Diagram: working out the total head of a solar surface pump. H is the height difference between the water level and the outlet into the tank, L the pipe length; total head ≈ H + 10% × L, plus 10 m per bar of pressure needed at the outlet.
Measure the height difference H and the pipe length L, then apply the formula.

Total head ≈ H + 10% × L

  • H: height difference between the (lowest) water level and the outlet.
  • L: pipe length to the outlet; the 10% covers friction losses.
  • Pressure needed at the outlet (sprinkler, drip line): add 10 m per bar.

Example: tank 8 m above the water level, 50 m of pipe → total head ≈ 8 + 5 = 13 m. With 1 bar needed at the outlet: 13 + 10 = 23 m.

Then go by the flow the pump delivers at that total head, not its maximum flow. Full 3-step method and how to read the curve.

Water more than 7–8 m below the pump? See our solar submersible pumps.

What do 6 m³/h and 30 m mean for your site?

Flow decreases as total dynamic head increases. This includes the elevation difference between the source and delivery point, pipe friction losses and the pressure needed at the outlet. A long pipe or filter can reduce flow even on fairly flat ground.

Need 6 m³/h at a specific head? Have that operating point checked before ordering. Motor power and connection size alone do not determine pump selection. The 6 m³/h model has different hydraulic characteristics from the 18 m³/h version.

Two 400 W panels in series: a setup to check

Two identical panels rated at around 400 Wp provide 800 Wp in total, above the recommended 750 Wp. In series, their voltages add while current remains that of one panel. MPPT control adjusts operation to the available solar energy; it does not make every panel compatible.

Operating voltage

Check that the combined Vmp suits the optimum 60–90 V range, taking operating temperatures into account.

Open-circuit voltage

The combined Voc, corrected for the lowest site temperature, must remain strictly below 100 V.

Current and controller

Check Imp and Isc against the limits of the controller supplied; panel wattage alone is insufficient.

48 V is the pump’s nominal voltage, not a substitute for PV selection criteria. No battery is required for direct solar operation; flow varies with sunlight and the pump stops when insufficient energy is available.

Three functions of the MPPT connections

Panels → P+ / P−

Connect the PV array to the P+ and P− solar input, with correct polarity and suitable DC protection.

Motor → U / V / W

The three motor phase conductors connect to controller outputs U, V and W.

Level sensors → dedicated inputs

Compatible sensors can signal low water or tank level. Check terminals and control logic in the controller manual.

Conceptual diagram, to be used with the manual for the supplied equipment. Level sensors do not provide continuous depth measurement. Where specified, protective earth connects to PE; COM is not earth. Have a qualified person wire the system with power isolated and check polarity and voltage before commissioning.

Prepare an installation that preserves flow

  1. Place the pump on a stable, dry base close to the source and protect it from frost.
  2. Use a short, airtight, collapse-resistant suction line with a suitable strainer and foot valve.
  3. Keep the strainer submerged and clear of the bottom to limit sediment intake.
  4. Prime the pump casing and suction line according to the manual before starting; never run the pump dry.
  5. Size pipes for their length and required flow: a 1″ pump connection does not mean every pipe must be 1″.
  6. Check sensors and protection devices, then inspect fittings and filters regularly.

Questions about this solar pump

Does it deliver 6,000 litres per hour all the time?

No. This is a maximum flow rating. Head, friction losses and available solar power determine actual flow.

Can it lift water from a 30 m deep well?

30 m is the maximum total head, not suction depth. This pump stays above water. For a deep water level, a properly sized submersible pump is needed.

Will any 400 W panels work?

No. Check Vmp, cold-corrected Voc, Imp and Isc. Two identical panels in series are an example configuration, not a compatibility guarantee.

Does it run at night or in cloudy weather?

In direct solar operation it runs only with sufficient PV energy. Clouds may reduce or stop flow; use stored water for night-time needs.

Are level sensors compulsory?

This depends on the controller and installation. They can manage water levels and help prevent dry running. Compatibility and setup must be checked.

Do 1-inch connections guarantee 6 m³/h?

No. Port diameter alone does not determine pump flow. Pipe length, internal diameter, fittings and elevation all affect the available flow.
