With a flow of 3,000 litres per hour and a head of 35 m, it waters a garden, fills a tank, supplies an off-grid home or waters a small flock, running on nothing but sunlight. Using the 36 V as a solar booster set

Un solar booster set is simply a solar pump paired with a pressurised diaphragm vessel. The principle: the pump fills the vessel under pressure, then stops. When you open a tap, water comes out of the vessel without the pump starting. The pump only restarts once the pressure drops below an adjustable threshold.

This has two major benefits: constant pressure throughout the system, and far fewer motor starts — which significantly extends the pump’s life. The 36 V is sized to feed a 24 to 50 litre vessel, enough for a house, a holiday let or a reasonably sized farm building.

⚠️ Suction limit: like every surface pump, the 36 V will lift water from up to 8 m at most. For a well or borehole deeper than 8 m, a submersible pump is required. If you are unsure about your installation, contact our team — free sizing.

Installation in 4 steps

No electrician and no cable trench required. Allow two to three hours for a complete installation in booster-set configuration.

  1. Orient the solar array (not included): facing south, tilted 30–35°, clear of shade. Recommended power: 600 W (e.g. 2 × 300 Wp panels). Maximum array-to-pump distance: 10 m using 4 mm² DC cable.
  2. Wire up the MPPT controller : connect the array’s DC cable to the box built into the pump, observing polarity (+ and -).
  3. Fit the suction hose : DN 25 (1″), length ≤ 12 m, with a foot valve at the source. Never reduce the diameter on the suction side.
  4. Connect the discharge to the tank, the pressure vessel or the distribution system. For booster-set use, fit the vessel between the pump and the system, with a pressure switch set to 2–3 bar.

💡 First priming: before the very first start, fill the pump body by hand through the filler plug. After that first step, the foot valve keeps it primed automatically on every restart.

Frequently asked questions about the 36 V solar pump

Can this pump work as a solar booster set?

Yes, that is one of its main uses. To run it as a solar water booster set, pair the pump with a pressurised diaphragm vessel (24 or 50 litres) and a pressure switch set between 1.5 and 3 bar. The pump charges the vessel, which then feeds the system without the pump starting every time a tap is opened. This arrangement gives constant pressure and extends motor life.

Which solar array should be used with the 36 V pump?

The pump runs in 36 V DC. The recommended power is 600 W — that is, two 300 Wp panels wired in series. You can go up to 800 W without risk to the built-in MPPT controller. Below 600 W the pump will run at reduced flow.

What is the difference between the 36 V and the 48 V?

The two models have comparable head (35 m against 30 m), but the 48 V delivers nearly twice the flow: 5,000 L/h against 3,000 L/h for the 36 V. The 36 V is the right choice for domestic use or a small garden. The 48V comes into its own as soon as you need more than 3,000 L/h, or the installation calls for more power (market gardening, a pool, a household with high consumption).

Does this pump work in cloudy weather?

Yes, but at reduced flow. Under overcast skies the array produces 15 to 30% of its rated power, and flow drops to 500–900 L/h. For continuous use regardless of the weather, store the water in a buffer tank during the sunny hours.

Can it be used on a 10-metre well?

No. The maximum suction lift is 8 metres. Beyond that the pump cannot prime. For a well deeper than 8 m, a solar submersible pump is required. Contact our team for sizing to suit.

How much water can the 36 V pump in a day?

In the UK, reckon on 4 to 6 hours of useful sunshine in summer, less in the north. At 3,000 L/h flat out, that comes to 12,000 to 18,000 litres a day in the best conditions. In spring, autumn or hazy weather, divide those figures by two or three. For night-time use, a buffer tank or a battery bank is needed.

Is an electrician needed for the installation?

No. The wiring is limited to the DC cable between the array and the pump — low-voltage direct current, with no connection to the 230 V mains and no electrical certification. The hydraulic side (suction pipe, foot valve, discharge connection) is standard. Allow two to three hours for the whole installation.
